Frequently Asked Questions:
- What are the shift hours — when can I have services?
Services are provided when you want them. You tell us what days and times you would like a caregiver at your home. Although three hour shifts are standard, we can sometimes provide services for shorter periods of time, depending on the situation.
- What is the difference between home health and the kind of homecare that Assisting Hands provides?
Home health care is provided by nurses and other clinical personnel. They generally provide services based on physician orders. Although some of our staff are clinically trained, we provide what is considered “non-medical service” that does not require clinical personnel. Our services do not require a physician's orders.
- Who pays for these services?
Because the homecare we provide is not considered "medical”, neither Medicare nor health insurance covers our services. However, many private long term care insurance policies, as well as Medicaid in most areas, do cover our services. We will be glad to assist you in reviewing your long term care policy to see if our services are covered. In addition, many of our clients pay for their services privately.
- Would I ever want to have Assisting Hands' services in addition to home health or hospice?
Yes. We work closely with home health and hospice agencies. People often want more services than home health or hospice typically provide, or more than their insurance will cover. In addition, the services we provide — such as bathing, meal preparation or companionship — do not require a nurse. There is no reason to pay the high costs of nursing care if a nurse's clinical skills are not necessary to provide the service.
Employment:
Assisting Hands Home Care is always looking for caring, dependable people to add to our team. We prefer caregivers have previous hands-on experience with patients, preferably in the home setting, or have completed caregiver training such as a CNA, pre-nursing or assisted living caregiver program. However, depending on our needs at the time and any special skills of the applicant, we may provide training to applicants without any care giving experience. All applicants must successfully pass a background check, drug screening and obtain current certification in CPR . Please contact he office for more information.
